The Slimming Truth
My first day of classes was on Monday. It was sooo exciting, but man was it really tiring. Mondays I have Photography class from 1:25-3:30pm and Culinary class from 5-9:40pm. Luckily, we were let out an hour and 20min early. Tomorrow (today), I just have my Photography class. I didn't quite get that nostalgic feeling of being back in school until...homework. I do not miss how time consuming classwork was, but I do feel as though I have matured a little more as a student since I have graduated.
Today was full of little errands around the house I had to get done, homework, AND my Latin performance class. Tonight I will be sleeping well and tomorrow I will be waking up very sore. Just a heads up, if I am comfortable enough with the idea and if I am free, I will be performing the routine in front of an audience...and hopefully you will be there! :)
So, remember those videos of television shows I posted earlier about health? Well I ran across another show that I thought was interesting. Here is part 1 of the show. I hope you enjoy!!

Going Under the Knife, yea or nay?
Is it wrong for a person to want to improve their appearance?
Isn't that why people get braces, change how they dress, shave/pluck/color/cut their hair, go on diets, get tattoos, wear make-up and even contour their faces with make-up, put on fake eye lashes and now even use medication to help make them grow? So, I guess the questions isn't, "is it wrong for a person to want to improve their appearance?" it's, "where do we draw the boundary in the natural-improved look and the "plastic" look?"
This is just my take on this controversial topic:
Just like the majority of people, I don't see a problem with getting braces to straighten your [naturally] crooked teeth, using make-up to hide blemishes or to highlight certain areas of your face, or doing anything of that level. And, maybe a less popular opinion, I also don't see a problem with breast reductions, eye lash implants or getting a nose job. However, there is a difference between when someone wears make-up to do a little touch-up and when someone cakes it on. Parallel to that, I feel like doing a reasonable amount of correction to your nose or breasts is reasonable. It's when someone gets an obvious amount of work done under the knife that makes me start to question if they are "fake" or not.
Some may say that, braces are just correcting what you already have and it's not like you have to go into surgery. This isn't necessarily true, some people don't fix their teeth just using braces, some people had teeth that jutted out at an unwanted location, or their teeth looked a little too small or large for their liking. Well, those people had to do more than just wear braces. So, what's wrong with people wanting to adjust their nose a little bit, and what's wrong with reducing your breast size? Everyone is entitled to do what they want in order to make themselves feel more positive about their appearance. Having self esteem and feeling proud of yourself...you cannot put a price on it.
People who change their breasts, nose, get botox, etc. to an extreme amount where it becomes unnecessary and can be ask categorized as "plastic surgery gone wrong" may have gone a little overboard and can be seen as "plastic". But hey, if they can honestly say this is what they needed to feel good, and that it's not an addiction or a psychological problem of depression or something where they continually need go under the knife, then I support them.
This isn't to say that young children who hate something about their own body should consider extreme measures. There should be lots of thought and discussion that goes into one's decision process before doing anything permanent to your body.

The Truth About Food
Quickly following Supersize vs. Superskinny, I used the suggested links side bar to pick the next show I wanted to watch. The Truth About Food: How to Stay Young and Beautiful was my pick. This episode of The Truth About Food, "looks at the everyday foods and drinks we consume and how they can help fight the aging process". More details found at this site: BBC
The Truth About Food - How 2 Stay Young & Beautiful Part 1/6
SPOILER ALERT!!! (cutting to the chase about the answers within this video)
Tomato & Skin Protection: (EAT) The lycopene that makes up the rich red color of the tomato decreases UV damage to your skin -- especially good for those who burn easily.
Red Wine & Heart: (DRINK) So you know how people say you should drink one glass of wine a night to help prevent heart problems? The answer is in the polyphenol found in the skin and seed. Polyphenol makes the blood flow more easily by helping the blood vessels stay more flexible and by preventing fatty deposits from building up. Want to take this advice to the next level? Grapes grown at higher altitudes, Cabernet Sauvignon, and ternak grapes contain higher levels of polyphenol.
- Bonus: Truth behind eating before drinking
If you do not eat, your alcoholic drink goes through your stomach too quickly ending up in your intestines where the alcohol is absorbed. The reason to eat while you eat is not so that the food absorbs the alcohol but so that it sits in your stomach longer, gets broken down, and is released in smaller increments. The pyloric valve located at the end of your stomach contracts when food enters the stomach and opens to allow broken down food (and wine) out in small amounts.
Water & Skin: (NO ADDED BONUS) If you have a healthy diet, you do not need to drink extra water on top of it. The prepared foods and drinks already contain an ample amount of water.
Berries & Memory: (EAT??) The anthocyanin that gives berries their vivid colors are also good antioxidants. People who eat a cup of berries a day show some improvements in memory...but, the improvements aren't large enough to be scientifically significant. I say, might as well eat it for health and the chance of memory improvement.
Spinach & Eyesight: (EAT) Your retina contains rods and cones which become damaged under UV and blue light. It's the macula, yellowish substance in your eye that absorbs excess harmful rays and acts as a natural sunblock for this area of the retina. Macular degeneration is an eye condition that results in a loss of vision in the center of the visual field and can eventually result in blindness. Part of its yellow comes from lutein which can be found in Spinach! Yay! So, eating spinach and kale (egg yoke, kiwi, and corn have lutein as well, but a lower amount) will help you increase your yellow-ness (haha sounds like an asian joke...not)
Finally, Detox: For the annoyance you have to go through...it's not worth it. You're body naturally detox's on it's own.

Supersize vs. Superskinny
So, after hours upon hours of watching diet and health shows broadcasted in the UK (thanks to Youtube), I have decided that since it has consumed such a large part of my night, that it was worth sharing with you all.
Up until 4am last night/this morning, I was watching the show, Supersize vs. Superskinny. "Documentary series in which two extreme eaters - one very overweight and the other severely underweight - swap diets in an attempt to change the way they view food and eating" (Channel4). At first, watching this show and seeing how they swap the meals of a very large person with a significantly underweight person, I had many reservations; such as, is this really the healthy way to go about doing things? But, by the end of the first episode, I realized that the damage each person was doing to their bodies to begin with was already deadly to begin with, and that the benefits of their realizations far outweigh the negatives (plus they only did this for a few days). On top of keeping track of the contestant's progress, there were side features ranging from which diets work and which don't, which work-outs will help you achieve that killer thin and lean body, and stories of anorexics seeking help going through a clinic's program. I do admit, there are a few dry and repetitive areas of the show...thank God for Youtube - fast forward!!
A message for those who were toooo skinny and do not always have a well balanced diet, check those hands! If you have pale lines/creases on your palm, you may be at risk for iron deficency. Not surprisingly, America is the hotspot for new foods and food diets. In NY, we find that raw food is the latest food diet; we refer to these people as rawists. We also find that there is rising demand for food coaches -- people who you can call throughout the day to help you stay on your diet and not cave in to your cravings. As for diets, there are many diets out there, and the majority of them are just not worth the effort with such little outcome. If you are desperate for help, try hypnosis. Even a skeptical UK woman found that it had the best outcome. She went from craving sweets and large portions of food to eating more fruits, veggies and smaller portions.
Supersize vs. Superskinny 3x06 Part 1
Stay tuned for the next TV show series I've been watching -- hint: what foods you should start including to your diet to stay healthy and young[-looking]. :)

Work-out Time!
After I officially stopped training for tennis, I have lost a lot of muscle mass. Good thing is, I'm slimming down, but the bad thing is, with no muscle to help support everything I have strained in the past, all my tennis injuries are starting to reveal themselves to me. I now have extra motivation to work out. My goal is to lose 5-7 pounds (if possible hehe), but more importantly to get fit and to strengthen the muscle in the areas that are giving me pain.
So...I've got my excel schedule/checklist, my Brazil Butt Lift CD, some gym equipment and you guys to hold me accountable. During these next 4 weeks I will be updating you guys on my progress, and at the end, I will rate & review it the CD (if I make it there...hehe).
