meh. . .

The title says it all. Everything feels very..blank, dull, nonexistent. Maybe it's because I'm tired, or maybe it's because there is nothing exciting going on right now, but all I know is that my bed + my heated blanket = pure bliss.

I just wanted to stop in and say hi and to let you know, I started taking practice pictures in my photography class and that I am on my way to actually cooking during my culinary class. :)

More updates to come.

Mood = Excited!!

A few days ago (1/28), I decorated my dad's birthday cake! I will admit that it was not my best work, but I did get to try new techniques. Some worked well and others, eh, not so much. I have decided that after I take this cooking class, I want to take a baking class. They're both challenging in their own ways. For me, I feel as though cooking is serious business. I almost feel like I'm in a competition for some reason. Where as baking is more fun. It's stressful and relaxing at the same time...haha, I don't know how to explain it. And, if I were to pick one word that I think of when someone says baking, I would pick warm. It just has this warm and cozy feeling, like the feeling of a home on a cold winter day with the fireplace going, while sipping hot chocolate with extra mini marshmallows.

Anyways, that's not the only thing I'm excited for. I went to NYC this weekend! And you guessed it, I had a little photoshoot. Hopefully, between this weekend and next weekend, I will have some good ones to use for both the Proscout event (which is coming up so soon...**nervous**) and my portfolio to show agents. Yay!

Also, while I was in NY, I visited my really good friend.  We shopped at SoHo, ate dinner at St. Marks, slept on her AMAZING bed - it's literally like sleeping on fluffy white clouds, and then had a late brunch on Sunday at Ze Cafe. Ze Cafe was soso cute!!

Such a cute place. I love these trees!

Homework, dreams and parties...

I am a student for life. I love learning, experimenting and exploring new things. However, I am definitely a person that needs to learn hands on incorporating all my senses of sight, hearing and touching. On top of it making me more engaged in the learning process, it helps me form connections to help me understand and better remember what I am doing. And for that reason, I am not a huge fan of reading out of a textbook. Well, I also blame my lack of enjoyment of textbook reading to my lack of speed when it comes to reading. I also find that when I read, I don't always comprehend or take in what I'm reading. You see if all things were made into fictional novels that engaged the readers, maybe I would be more inclined to absorb more of the material I read. In the end, this is why i prefer the hands on method, even if it means I will make more mistakes.

Although this has only been my first week of school, I have to hand it to myself. I have probably studied more in the past 4 days than I averaged in half a month at UPenn. There are many plausible reasons for this, like, the material is about cooking (much more enjoyable) and the workbook I have to complete is not exceptionally difficult, BUT I will go with, I am maturing into a more studious individual. **so proud**  ...let's just see how long this lasts haha :P

Next topic of business, you know how when you're greatly involved in something that you have a passion for you start to dream about it? (and if you don't have a passion for it, it may haunt you...) When it comes to dancing, I generally dream about hip hop and where I am actually choreographing the piece. Well, today when I was napping, I was dreaming that I was practicing Henry Velandia's performance piece that we have been working on during our Tuesday class. I am currently debating what that means. 1) It is not something that I  choreographed. 2) Does this mean that even in my dreams, I know I need to practice it? or 3) I just practiced it in my sleep, therefore I don't need to practice it? What do you think?

One last thing, it is my Dad's birthday tomorrow!! YAY!!

Stay tuned, more updates to come.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow...

This has to be an all time record. We got a ridiculous amount of snow this year. And with snow, always come stories.

First, to all those drivers who stared at me with one eyebrow cocked up, head tilted to the side, and eyes saying, "what are you doing? haven't you ever seen snow before?" Yes, I live in NJ. Yes, I am stopping in the middle of the street to take pictures. Yes, [when sitting in the passenger seat...safety first] I stick my hand and camera out the window into the freezing cold to take pictures. And, yes, I even got out of the car to run around frantically to each place I thought was a wintry wonderland, so that I could take a picture.

**Sticking my hand out a moving car window. Warning: you're hands will get very, very cold doing this

**Parked my car and traveled across roads and people's lawns to get to this surprisingly beautiful creek

**Stopping my car in the middle of the road to take pictures (good thing no one was behind me :p )

Second...so, I thought it would be a great a idea to leave 30-45 minutes early to my Photography class so that I could purchase materials I needed. I knew that I would have to brush my car off a little so I did allot 10 minutes or so. Well, well, well, little did I know how much time I really would need. First things first, seeing how the snow was still fresh and light, I took out a large industrial-sized broom and literally, swept my car of the piled-on inches of snow. Then I went in with the smaller car cleaner (what are they called?). Now that my car is all clean, I can drive off right? That was a big, fat W-R-O-N-G. I had to back that thang up and shovel the entire driveway. le sigh...I went on speed mode and just ran with the shovel. Moral of the story? Well there isn't one that part of the story. But take great caution to this piece of advice, after frantically cleaning snow until your body is so confused that you're starting to sweat but you're hands are frozen...don't get into a warm and toasty, pre-heated car. My finger blew up. I thought they were going to burst through the skin.

And that was how my adventurous wintry day went.

Wait! I almost forgot to talk about today's class...apparently the time on my professors computer was wrong causing him to show up over half an hour late to class. All of the young college students left at the 15-20 minute mark, while the older and obviously the good students stayed. It's amazing how much a person's mentality changes as they mature. And the rest of class was pretty standard. Note taking and a visit around the dark room.

My final note of this entry is...drumroll...I now have a Flickr account. For blog posts that would contain an abundant amount of pictures, I will provide a link to my Flickr account. And if you just want to see some of my pictures, follow me on Flickr.  :)

The Slimming Truth

My first day of classes was on Monday. It was sooo exciting, but man was it really tiring. Mondays I have Photography class from 1:25-3:30pm and Culinary class from 5-9:40pm. Luckily, we were let out an hour and 20min early. Tomorrow (today), I just have my Photography class. I didn't quite get that nostalgic feeling of being back in school until...homework. I do not miss how time consuming classwork was, but I do feel as though I have matured a little more as a student since I have graduated.

Today was full of little errands around the house I had to get done, homework, AND my Latin performance class. Tonight I will be sleeping well and tomorrow I will be waking up very sore. Just a heads up, if I am comfortable enough with the idea and if I am free, I will be performing the routine in front of an audience...and hopefully you will be there! :)

So, remember those videos of television shows I posted earlier about health? Well I ran across another show that I thought was interesting. Here is part 1 of the show. I hope you enjoy!!

Story #11: Learning

"You learn something every day if you pay attention." - Ray LeBlond
~ Thanks to quotegarden.com

"I must learn to love the fool in me the one who feels too much, talks too much, takes too many chances, wins sometimes and loses often, lacks self-control, loves and hates, hurts and gets hurt, promises and break promises, laughs and cries." - Theodore Isaac Rubin
~ Thanks to thinkexist.com

Learning, practicing and relearning is an on going process that never seems to slow down. The more I think about the word learn, the more complicated it seems. I remember way back when...being in a room where the silence was eerie and the chairs were uncomfortable, taking those excessively long and unnecessary SAT's...and one of the hardest parts about it, was rewriting the "I will not cheat" paragraph in cursive. I know what you're thinking, and no, I'm not slow; but, I simply never write in cursive. It's hard to do something that you've never really done before.

So, the reason for this [as it would seem], pointless story, is to remind everyone that every day, we are learning something new, practicing and perfecting what we are learning, AND relearning the old. But what makes this process so difficult is that simply brushing up on already acquired skills will keep you running on a stationary treadmill; instead, improvement comes with going above and beyond.

And now that I repeated myself a few times trying to explain complex ideas that actually only need a few words to explain. I'm excited to announce that...I am a student again, but this time I get to take COOL classes. I'm taking a culinary and photography class. SOOO excited! :)

♥♥♥ Latin Dance ♥♥♥

I had the most amazing time today! First I took salsa classes, then went to KatManDo where we danced and watched a performance by Claudia and Henry. AMAZING!! The salsa, bachata, and even the chacha (just one dance haha), was so much fun. And to top of this already amazing night, when I got home, I ate all my cravings away. I had Edy's slow churned mint chocolate chip ice cream and some pita chips. nomnomnom

Unfortunately I did not take pictures or any videos of this wonderful night...maybe next time though.

Alrighty, time to wind down. I hope your night was just as amazing as mine! :)

Stay tuned, more to come.

Story #10: Stage Freight

Laziness vs. Diligence
Outcome: Laziness defeats Diligence

well, this has been a complete and udder failure. Trying to post everyday is just not working...BUT, I will succeed one of these days. There will be a day where a blog will be posted, every single day.

So, moving on...yesterday, I had a mother/daughter date in NYC! We had dinner with our good friends and then we saw a Broadway show together. Billy Elliot. It was soooo good. You wouldn't believe how talented that boy was. I wish I was that talented when I was his age...or even that talented now for that matter.

My mom used her sneaky ninja skills to take a few photos! Because I love you guys, I tried to fix the rotation of the pictures :)

When watching others perform, play, or do anything that they have a passion for and truly enjoy, it motivates and inspires you to work harder. You know what I mean? After watching Billy Elliot, it motivated me to continue to do what I love and it has inspired me to work harder to reach higher. So, next fear to conquer...stage freight. I don't want to just be able to conquer it, but I want to be comfortable in front of people and the camera.

One day, I will make it...one day :)

Home Sweet Home

Boy oh boy what a hectic week. As soon as I got home, I had a lot of cleaning (sorted through all my college stuff that was piled up in my attic), salsa class, bachata class, acting class, full day of baking (cake, cupcakes, 4 batches of pecan cookies, and with the help of my brother, pumpkin pie), AND today we had our annual "Christmas" family dinner with the extended Wong family.

BUT the craziness is not over. I have some more thinking to do, lots of research (don't you wish you knew what it was all about...hehe jk), lots of preparation work, lots of training, and...it's gonna all be such an unforgettable experience. I have a little over a month to make things happen and I'm going to need a lot of luck, skill, preparation, and prayers. So, if you have birthday candles to blow out, please help me wish for success. If you have prayer time coming up, please pray for guidance, success and lots of courage.

WISH ME LUCK! <3

no worries, more updates to come.
